Sweet cotton candy

Cotton candy is a joy for children and pleasant childhood memories for adults, most often associated with some holidays, trips with parents to the park, circus, etc.

True, sugar is a huge harm not only for teeth, but also for the entire body as a whole, so each parent decides for himself whether it is possible to give it to his child and at what age.

My daughter has been asking for this kind of cotton wool for a long time, but we sell it only on major holidays, and even then not always. In addition, the last time we sold it, the products for its production were in containers of questionable cleanliness (this was right on the street not far from the road during an event dedicated to Children's Day). We didn't buy this for our daughter.

And in the last three days we have been so covered in snow that you can’t even buy rare sweets, but even bread and milk in stores - cars with food cannot get to us due to weather conditions.

Crafts - cotton candy figures

Therefore, today our dad organized home production of this sweet for the child. It turned out just like the real thing. There was enough for everyone to eat and for crafts. This material is very easy to mold.

My daughter and I made some unusual crafts - figurines made from cotton candy. They sparkle beautifully and shimmer under the rays of the sun, like real snow!

The figures can be made larger, but we like miniatures.

They are suitable for decorating a holiday table, sweets or as individual dishes. I am sure that cotton candy in the shape of cute animals will delight children at the holiday.

Snowman

How to make cotton candy at home with your own hands

To make this delicacy at home, you will need a special device (for example, like the one in Ozone). But even if there is no such device, but there is a dad with golden hands, then the device can be made at home or temporarily use existing household appliances instead.

The machine for producing cotton candy was a juicer. They removed everything unnecessary from it, leaving only a metal round plate that rotates when the device is turned on (in general, it is desirable that the rotating element is not flat, but slightly concave). The juicer itself was placed in a box covered with new grocery bags, because... There was no cling film in the required quantity.

Hot syrup was poured onto a rotating plate, it scattered into many thin threads and solidified at room temperature, forming a cobweb that scattered around (that's what the box was for).

The appearance of the cotton wool in the box in the photo did not turn out very appetizing, it looked more like a cobweb, but in fact it is beautiful and shiny, especially on the plate (this is not the whole portion).

And during the cooking process, tiny sugar crystals flew over the box, sparkling and shimmering in the sun’s rays, like real snow dust.

All that remains is to collect the resulting cotton wool in a plate (and, if desired, wrap it around a wooden stick to make it really real).

Syrup for cotton candy. Recipe

We made caramel syrup in this way: for 6 tablespoons (without a slide) of sugar - 2 tablespoons of water and a quarter teaspoon of regular table vinegar. Cooked for about 8 minutes.

This amount yielded 1 serving - a full deep plate of cotton wool with a slide.

If you need a different amount of cotton wool, then for the syrup use granulated sugar and water in a ratio of 3:1 and vinegar essence (3 ml of essence per 1 kg of sugar). If desired, you can add food or natural colors or flavors - lemon juice, beets, raspberries, blackberries, etc.

How to cook caramel syrup to make cotton candy

Mix water and sugar, place in a metal bowl over very low heat (we cooked in a cezve, it is also called a Turka - a vessel for brewing coffee). When the water and sugar begin to turn into a homogeneous mass, add vinegar. Keep on fire until the mixture turns light brown.

If the syrup is undercooked, then the resulting cotton wool will contain too much water, the cotton wool will not be airy, but heavy and wet, and will stick strongly to the teeth, like toffee. In this case, roll the cotton wool into balls - you get caramel.

If you overcook, the syrup will be very viscous, viscous, and the cotton wool from it will turn out to be hard, even a little prickly.

Remove the mixture from the heat and immediately, before it has cooled down, pour it in a very thin stream onto the rotating disk of the device.

How to make cotton candy at home? Don't have a special car? Is it possible? Certainly. The sweet and fluffy delicacy will be no worse than what you can buy in parks and shops.

To prepare you will need the simplest ingredients:

  • 0.3 kg sugar;
  • 100 ml of clean water;
  • 0.5 tsp vinegar;
  • You can use food coloring to suit your taste, or you can do without it.

Cooking process

To prepare an amazing and airy dessert not only for children, but also for adults, you must carefully follow the preparation recipe. Despite the fact that it is quite simple, changing the sequence can lead to the pomp and airiness of the finished product being lost. How to make cotton candy at home without using special equipment? You will need simple kitchen accessories: a stove and a desire to try a tasty and extremely simple delicacy.

  1. We start making cotton candy at home by preparing the main starting product. Let's start cooking sugar syrup. To do this, mix the measured sugar in a convenient bowl, add liquids (water, vinegar) and put the resulting mixture on the fire.
  2. During the heating process, carefully, gently and constantly mix the sugar composition, for this we use a wooden spoon or spatula.
  3. To heat the syrup evenly, we perform several cycles of cooling and heating the syrup. This is necessary so that as a result of preparing cotton candy at home, the resulting dessert does not have an unpleasant rubbery consistency, but has an airy and fluffy structure. Properly brewed syrup is the key to a delicate and light cotton wool structure at the end.
  4. We repeat alternating heating and cooling of the syrup at least 4 times.
  5. To make the cotton wool a bright color, food coloring is added to the syrup. You don’t have to use it, then the airy sweet dessert will turn out to be a snow-white shade.
  6. To make cotton wool, use a special whisk. It is dipped in syrup to gently wrap it around a wooden stick that will serve as a handle for the finished dessert.
  7. In a special machine, the process of preparing cotton wool does not require special skills. The dessert can be made in any quantity. It depends on the amount of original syrup, so there is simply no standard serving size. It all depends on your imagination and inspiration.

Not a single holiday: a trip to the park with parents or just a weekend stroll would be complete without this treat. Cotton candy has been loved by everyone since childhood. It’s a pleasure to simply watch how it is wound with jewelry on a stick in the machine.

In fact, devices began to be used much later than sweets were invented. Of course, not all housewives know how to make cotton candy at home.

You need to eat the treat right away, everyone knows how quickly it melts and turns into a hard lump.

The sweetness will only come from bulk sugar; lump sugar or substitutes will not work.

Preparing cotton wool is a sticky business; it is better to cover the kitchen in advance from splashes and sweet drops.

You will have to work with hot syrup; it can easily get burned, so you should be careful.

In fact, the basis for cotton candy is a blank for making cockerels or lollipops. Therefore, you can make sweets from the leftover syrup.

Cotton candy without a machine

The step-by-step recipe for making cotton candy at home is not at all complicated. We just need a saucepan and a few forks. The composition is extremely simple:

  • Sugar – 300 g
  • Water – 100 g
  • Acetic acid – drop

How to make cotton candy

Combine all these ingredients in a saucepan, heat and cook the syrup. The syrup is prepared over low heat; sugar tends to burn.

If you're bored of eating white cotton wool, add natural dye. It could be beet juice or berry jam.

Bring the sweet liquid to a boil several times and remove from the stove. After several passes, the mass will begin to darken, become a beautiful golden hue, thicken and reach for a fork. It is very important to finish cooking the mixture, otherwise the cotton ball will not be airy and will stick together.

The most difficult thing is to wind the threads into a ball without a machine. Place the forks opposite each other and secure. Using another cutlery, we pull the thread out of the pan and wrap it around the forks. The process is labor-intensive, but if you follow all the tips, cotton candy at home should turn out no worse than in the store.

Professional machine for making cotton candy

The special device is expensive enough that everyone can afford to have it at home. Those who still have it can very quickly make cotton candy at home. There is no need to do anything manually. Pour one and a half tablespoons of sugar into the bowl of the device and turn it on.

The heating element heats up and the sweet sand melts. After about a minute of rotation, white cobwebs form. We take any stick, for example, for rolls, and try to catch the threads in a horizontal position so that the skein does not fall.

The culinary attraction is designed for one serving. To make more skeins, simply add the main product. The device must be washed after each rotation.

An interesting cotton wool is made from jam syrup. We proceed in the same way, only we don’t pour granulated sugar, but pour a thick-sweet solution onto the heating element. By the way, it can be painted, for example, with raspberry jam, which will delight children. The balloons are pink and berry flavored.

If you want a whole palette of colors, buy natural food dyes. Then the balls will be completely festive - yellow, blue, green. And all this without harm to health. True, each additional ingredient complicates the process, but if you carefully follow the instructions, everything will work out successfully.

When using the device, excess residue remains stuck to the walls of the container. Don't rush to throw it away. Shape with your hands and let harden. Homemade lollipops will surprise guests no less than store-bought ones.

When heated, the syrup also turns into threads and is distributed along the walls of the container. All that remains is to collect the sweets.

DIYers learned how to make an electrical device with their own hands. To make it you need a few simple items. Of course, a homemade analogue is completely free, but this does not affect the quality at all. We get an airy cotton treat. Assembly instructions are available on the Internet and have long been tested by housewives.

Of course, the electric method is much more convenient, much faster, and you can prepare a lot of goodies for a crowd of kids. An unexpected surprise at a birthday party - a minimum of money is spent, and everyone will enjoy the treat.

So, now we will start making a dish that, as I think, you have not yet prepared at home. Have you long been interested in the question of how to make cotton candy at home? By following our instructions, you will prepare cotton candy, which is made by professionals.

Collecting components

First, we collect all the necessary components and items, namely:

  • Forks (you can use Chinese chopsticks or a whisk).
  • Half a glass of plain water.
  • One and a half glasses of sugar.
  • One or two drops of vinegar.
  • The vessel in which we will cook this is a saucepan or frying pan.

Be careful when choosing a holder for our sweet dish. It doesn’t matter what you take for this, since it could be a fork, a whisk, chopsticks or something similar, the main thing is that the selected item is held perfectly in an upright position.

Making syrup

After solving the problem with the holders, we move on to the sweet syrup. Mix water, sugar and add some vinegar (a couple of drops). Do you want to make colored cotton candy? No problem. You just need to add a little food coloring to the sugar syrup.

We take the mixture that we have and pour it into the previously prepared dishes. Everyone uses different utensils, but most often it is a saucepan or frying pan. Heat and stir continuously.

We need to bring our mixture to a boil. After everything, remove the dishes from the heat, cool and heat again. So 4-5 reps. Your syrup should turn out golden, but not dark brown. At this stage, it is necessary to continuously monitor our “mixture”. After you have done everything written above, you will have a rich golden mass that will stretch perfectly.

Cotton candy without a machine

Now we will learn how to make cotton candy without using a machine. Dip a fork into the hot syrup and start stirring it in a circular motion using the prepared holder. Your goal is to “wind” sweet threads around the holder. Do this until you have the volume of real cotton candy.

As soon as your cotton wool is completely ready, do not rush to throw away the remaining syrup. Just break your frozen syrup into pieces and you'll have sweet candies for kids. We are confident that your loved ones will appreciate the effort you put into making cotton candy. And even if you don’t get everything right the first time, the main thing is dexterity, which only comes with experience.

We warn you that the sweet threads are very hot. In the process of making cotton candy, to avoid problems, it is better to prohibit your little children from entering the kitchen.

Cotton candy is the most favorite children's treat. In the old days, one could try this dessert only on major holidays, in good weather, or when visiting a children's park. Now anyone can purchase a special practical device to make cotton candy.

The main component of cotton candy is sugar. It can be very different, for example, granulated sugar by weight from the store or a special multi-colored one with various fruit additives. In order to make cotton candy yourself, it is more convenient to use the second type of sugar, since you do not have to buy additional syrups and other components.

If there is a device

To make your favorite delicacy at home, you need to have a so-called compact machine (there are also industrial ones). They are small and have a special turbine in the upper bowl. They work on a simple principle:

  • Sugar must be poured into the turbine itself;
  • Then turn on the device;
  • The turbine heats up, and the sugar gradually turns from solid to liquid;
  • Thanks to the high speed of rotation of the turbine, such liquid sugar is distributed along the walls of the bowl with the thinnest sugar thread;
  • This string of sugar eventually turns into our cotton candy. It just needs to be assembled onto a special stick.

However, at home you can prepare cotton wool in another way. In this case, sugar syrup must be made in advance.

  • The syrup itself is directly poured onto the disk, which is installed in the apparatus instead of a turbine;
  • The device works like this: it rotates quickly, and the future treat ends up on the walls of the device;
  • The resulting cotton wool is wound on a special stick.

It should be noted that this device is somewhat more difficult to use, but it provides an excellent opportunity to experiment with additional syrups or other additives.

If there is no device

If you don’t have a special machine designed for making cotton candy at home, don’t despair. The means at hand will come to your aid.

  • First, you need some kind of frames for winding threads of sugar. For example, cocktail tubes, sticks or regular spoons. These frames must be fixed vertically.
  • You will also need a tin bowl, a saucepan with thick walls or a frying pan with a whisk.
  • As for the ingredients, you can use granulated sugar directly (you determine the quantity yourself, it all depends on the portions), water, the proportion of which in relation to sugar should be one to three. For example, 300 grams of sugar means 100 ml of water. You will also need half a teaspoon of vinegar, as well as food coloring.
  • When all the ingredients are collected, you can start cooking. All ingredients need to be mixed in a bowl and then transferred to a heating container (frying pan or saucepan).
  • It is necessary to heat the mixture over low heat while stirring continuously so that the syrup does not burn. When it boils, you need to remove it from the stove and cool slightly.
  • This procedure must be repeated about four times.
  • When the syrup turns golden, check to see if it stretches well. If all the conditions are met, you need to dip a whisk in it and move it around the improvised frame.
  • You need to stop when the desired volume is reached.

It’s easy to see that you can make cotton candy at home without special equipment, you just need the desire and a couple of basic supplies. By the way, many lovers of this dessert who prepare it at home offer beginners some tips:

“For example, I never get rid of excess syrup. You need to make the most of all the ingredients, so you can make lollipops out of it. By the way, they turn out very tasty! Very reminiscent of childhood..."

“My syrup was very loose at first, so I couldn’t make cotton wool. Then I read somewhere that you just need to press it, so to speak, with your fingers. The problem went away, cotton wool began to turn out, I’m very pleased! By the way, the method itself is very simple, the cotton wool obtained is no worse than that which is made on all sorts of newfangled devices. I recommend!"

Fruit cotton wool

Exotic lovers can make fruit cotton wool at home. Of course, it will be a little more difficult, but it is quite possible. To do this you need to do the following:

  • Take some water (about two hundred ml), sugar (at least 600 grams), half a teaspoon of vinegar and the food additives that have been selected.
  • You need to make sugar syrup in advance in the same way as described earlier. Then mix it well with flavoring additives. For example, you can buy any syrup in almost any hypermarket. Raspberry, apple, vanilla.
  • The assortment is varied and everyone can choose according to their taste. So, such a “tasty” component needs to be added to the resulting syrup, and then the mixture should be cooked again over low heat.
  • Further steps depend on how you prepare the dessert. If using a machine, pour the syrup into it. If you use improvised means, then start reeling.

And in the end

As you can see, everything is brilliantly simple. Try, experiment and enjoy your favorite delicacy! And finally, here’s one more piece of advice from a girl from Astrakhan:

What syrups do you mix? I really like to experiment! My favorite combinations are nuts with caramel, mint with lemon, strawberries with vanilla... the list is endless!! For my birthday I was given a cotton candy machine, and I still can’t get enough of it! My advice, try different flavors, the cotton wool will definitely not get worse, and you are guaranteed to experience new sensations, good luck to everyone!
